Ok so it's confirmed, I love this new season so much!

(spoilers ahead)

The tone looks like it's going to stay a bit darker than the previous two season which is an interesting choice for a show that was born as a comedic parody of Star Trek. However I am absolutely still here for it! I do kinda hope we get some the old silly or trying to be serious and failing so bad it's funny style episodes but for now i'm quite happy with the show!

I love that we finally got our zombie ghost ship episode! I feel like it's a required plot for every good scifi spaceship based show and I absolutely love them!

This episode did such a good job building and maintaining the tension throughout the episode! I had to put down my crocheting several times to fully focus on what was happening!

I love that we're getting so many Claire focused episodes as she's probably one of my favorite characters (aside from Issac that it) and I love that she's getting to be an awesome complex person!

I especially liked her drinking and bonding scene with Kelly! (Please Orville give us more girls bonding scenes it was so sweet!!!)

I'm also excited that they seem to be leaning back into the Claire/Issac relationship! (I have many strong headcanons about them as a grayro/aro qpr! With Issac as an aro who enjoys the platonic closeness of a relationship and Claire as an allo who doesn't mind that Issac can't exactly understand romantic love!)... Or in a simpler way, I ship it!

The way this episode ended honestly surprised me! the fact that they just couldn't save anyone was super unexpected! I thought there would a last minute scifi magic explanation about how to reverse the transformation or something!

But if i'm being honest I really liked the ending! it was sad and a little bit scary but very impactful!

I'm looking forward to next episode!

Sadly it looks like we're only getting a 10 episode season (though hopefully they'll get renewed for a 4th season on Hulu!) I'm very interested in episode 5 which (according to wikipedia) is titled "A Tale of Two Topas" which sounds very intriguing! Are we finally going to get a continuation on that storyline? I absolutely adored the terrible way this show handled Moclan gender and well everything about Moclans to be honest! (Those episodes are silly trash TV at it's finest!)

So episode 1 of the third season of The Orville has finally dropped! It honestly took me by surprise as I had honestly forgotten about it XD

So it was a very pleasant surprise to come home from a day full of exams to see that my favorite trash TV show had dropped an episode for the first time in years!

(Spoilers for the episode and mentions of suicide, past this point so please beware!)

-------------

I really liked the opening sequence and I love that the trauma that the kids faced during the battle with the Kaylons is being treated with some real weight!

(also Issac's face plate opening up into a jaw was absolutely terrifying and made me physically flinch!) Jump scares are often rather cheap for me but this was great!

The episode surprised me a lot with just how serious it was! I mean I do like that the events of the last season are being treated as actual things with a lasting impact (I'm especially glad that they didn't do a time skip or something to explain the real world time break) but this episode was miles away from the tone that I'm used to seeing from The Orville!

I mean it's a comedic Star Trek parody for gods sake! I don't expect it to depict a character being ostracized and hated by his entire community to the point that he commits suicide!

So yeah this episode was absolutely angst fuel for Issac! My boy is not having a good time in this episode (which to be fair he does deserve).

The majority of the ship (mostly excluding the main cast) distrusts or straight up hates him for his part in the Kaylon attack (which as I've already said is quite valid) and even Marcus seems to hate Issac.

Issac in his usual way seems both robotically unphased but in a way that lets the invested viewer see and underlying emotional reaction. Which I absolutely love! It's so cool how the show always toes the line of Issac's humanity without ever truly confirming it one way or the other. He clearly is able to form attachments to people but other than that it never commits further.

Issac's relationship with Claire was adorable but he never seemed to truly understand love or romance, even when he parroted it. However if you wish to see that he feels it you can! The show never definitely says that he did or didn't love Claire in the romantic sense! It leaves it up to the viewer to project which ever interpretation they wish onto Issac. He is exactly as human as you want him to be.

(As an aromantic I prefer to believe that while he did care for Claire he could never love her in the romantic sense! He just wasn't programmed that way, and neither was I!)

Either way his Suicide absolutely surprised me, I was not expecting The Orville to go there! But it was a fascinating thing to explore! The different ways that it affected people (Especially Claire, Ty, and Marcus) was really fun to watch! As a fan of angst I definitely enjoyed it (even though I was terrified that my favorite character had just been permanently killed off!)

Luckily for me Issac was revived and will hopefully remain on the ship for many more seasons! I'm really interested to see where the rest of the season will take this plot thread of the animosity of the crew towards Issac! I feel like even though there was some resolution there's still so much to be tackled! Especially with the new ensign who (kinda rightfully) hates him for the death of her best-friend.

I also hope we get a more fulfilling and long-term resolution between Marcus and Issac!

ALSO LET TY HUG HIM GODSDAMMIT! Why didn't we get a scene with Ty reacting to Issac being ok?? D:

I also really liked the therapy session between Claire and Issac at the end of the episode! The implication that Issac's suicide might have been based completely on robotic logic about optimal crew functioning levels vs the underlying feeling that there's something more to it is a great example of how the show continues to play with Issac's humanity.

(Also I find it extremely humorous in a dark way that the emotionless android is probably now on a suicide watch)

I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season! For more of this Issac centered storyline but also for storylines centered on the other characters! (I feel like aside from Claire and the new ensign we really didn't get much about non-Issac characters in this episode!)

I honestly really want more from LaMarr this season!

Oh and of course I hope we get some content about my favorite dysfunctional (should probably get a divorce) couple: Bortus and Klyden! God those two are so bad for each other! :D

 Season 1
Season one probably gave me my top ten episodes out of the whole show! There were just so many good episodes (and I found myself super charmed by the episodic stories)

1) Shape Shifters
While it's really hard to really put an order to these episodes (they are all so good!) I know for certain that my absolute fav was this one! Idk what it was, the casual well thought out urban fantasy? the gorgeous animation? the cute shippable friendship between the two werewolves? IDK but it was some good stuff! I loved it a lot! And I wish it had a happy ending

2) Good Hunting
Again this one was no struggle to place! I absolutely adored this episode! The animation was just gorgeous and the story was haunting! I love the examination of colonialism (and as someone from a country that has been heavily impacted by colonialism, I'm always here for colonized people murdering the british!) The beautiful blend of fantasy and steampunk in this one just blew me away!

3) When The Yogurt Took Over
Listen this is such a funny little story! I adore the cute claymation art style, and the silly and absurd story is perfect!

4) The Witness
The art style of this is so fucking stunning! I adore the weird and trippy story and the time loop vibes!

5) Three Robots
This story is so funny! I love the adorable characters and the misinterpretation of human culture!

6) Ice Age
This episode is so funny! I love the weird and low key wholesome message of the tiny civilization's existence. Also I think having a tiny civilization in your freezer would be really fun (like a tiny tv show you could watch when ever you're bored) Also i'm probably a bad person for saying this but after the third time the civilization went though it's full cycle i'd probably start messing with them (trying to see what happens if i destroy their buildings or toss a tiny ufo in there just to see what they do) XD

Season 2
Season two was honestly pretty meh. This combined with the much shorter season means that this is an incredibly short list. Additionally while there were a few episodes that i really liked none of them came close to my favs from season one!

1) Automated Customer Service
This one was very silly and fun! We love evil technology comedy! Also the Claymation was a really nice contrast to the hyper realistic style of a lot of the other episodes from this season! I love that it had a surprisingly cute and uplifting ending!

2) Pop Squad
This was a haunting dystopia and I loved it! I really want an au where the characters get to live happily ever after.

3) Snow in the Desert
Idk man I just really liked Snow! (and as happens when i really like a male character I now want to see him get railed by anyone and everyone!) Actually now that i think about it between his regeneration/immortality and being hunted by every bounty hunter he's absolutely the perfect victim for  my fav brand of whumpy non-con! Plus you can toss in a lovely touch of gore and torture!
(Like maybe some hunter decided to have some fun with Snow before turning him in? It would probably end with snow killing the bounty hunter and escaping but not before being fully and totally broken first) :D
